The 2007 America's Anniversary

Garden™ Contest

Join your fellow Virginians in planting red, white, and blue America's Anniversary Gardens™ as part of the state-wide commemoration of the First Permanent English Settlement at Jamestown. Any type of garden, including residential, neighborhood, municipal, business, school, church, hospital, park, airport, racetrack and arboreta is eligible, as well as commercial garden center and farmers market displays and landscape design/installation/maintenance projects.

Contest Application Submission Deadline: September 1, 2007. Categories include (you can download the full description of categories and criteria here in PDF format):

Category 1 – Commercial Green Industry – Sponsored by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

A – Garden center displays

B – Farmers market displays

C – Landscape design/installation/maintenance projects

Category 2 – Business gardens or landscapes – Sponsored by the Virginia Society of Landscape Designers

Category 3 – Neighborhood gardens or landscapes – Sponsored by the Virginia Master Gardener Association

Category 4 – Residential gardens or landscapes – Sponsored by the Virginia Flower Growers Association

Category 5 – Municipal gardens or landscapes – Sponsored by Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

Category 6 – School, church, hospital, and other institutional gardens or landscapes – Sponsored by the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs

Category 7 – Other gardens or landscapes – Sponsored by the Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association and the Mid-Atlantic Chapter, International Soc. of Arboriculture

Special Awards:

Best Use of Native Plants – Sponsored by the Virginia Native Plant Society - an entry in any of the above 7 categories that uses at least 65% plants native to Virginia.

Best State Fair Student Garden – Sponsored by Virginia 4-H

Best in Contest – Sponsored by the Historic Triangle Jamestown 2007 Host Committee Beautification Task Force
