Primary Program Area Focus: 4-H
Describe the plans for this internship. (i.e. What specifically will the intern be doing?)
4-H Program:
- Assist the 4-H Agent in preparing, implementing, conducting, and evaluating the 4-H livestock program and other programs to be offered during the summer.
- Plan and deliver educational programs to 4-H youth to help them gain life skills.
- Work cooperatively with the 4-H Agent, 4-H volunteer leaders, 4-H’ers, and office staff.
- Assist the Chesapeake 4-H Extension Agent and office with Extension related activities and programs.
- Take photos during 4-H events.
- Assist 4-H agent with newsletters and other mailings.
- Attend partner agency meetings with 4-H agent.
- Support and attend 4-H activities .
4-H camp:
- Assist the 4-H Agent in preparing, implementing, conducting & evaluating the Chesapeake 4-H summer camping program.
- Help orient and train teen leaders, campers, and other volunteers assisting with 4-H summer camp and summer programs.
- Work collaboratively with the 4-H youth development agent and camp volunteers.
- Attend 4-H summer camp.
- Work with unit office to prepare camp packets.
- Prepare file labels, files, and packets for counselors/CITs and campers.
- Prepare nametags for counselors/CITs and campers.
- Assist in preparing Parent/Camper Handbook for parent orientation.
- Sorting spreadsheets for room assignments, bus numbers, t-shirt sizes, etc., and creating documents to utilize during check-in, check-out, t-shirt distribution, etc.
- Assist unit office in preparing and sending out letters to campers with information on the camper’s team, color, bus # and instructions for departure.
- Make signs for buses/registration tables/medication tables for use during check-in, check-out.
- Notify campers and counselors/CITs with missing paperwork or missing information and collecting missing paperwork/signatures prior to departure date.
- Copy paperwork and prepare notebooks for camp (3 notebooks – counselors, boys and girls) and copies of medical forms for buses.
- Review health history forms & prepare spreadsheet containing allergies, medications, medical problems for use at camp.

How will the intern learn about the breadth of VCE and our various program areas?
The Intern will explore the city and VCE websites to become more familiar with VCE and programs offered. The intern will be engaged in program development and delivery and will learn about the various roles and responsibilities of all the Extension Agents in the office. The intern may also partner to help other agents in the office with program delivery.
