Primary Program Area Focus: 4-H/Agriculture and Natural Resources/Family and Consumer Sciences

Describe the plans for this internship.  (i.e. What specifically will the intern be doing?)

The Halifax summer intern will assist with various VCE programs:

  • 4-H - residential camp at W.E. Skelton, 4-H day camps in the county.
  • Agriculture  – programs, farm visits.
  • SNAP Ed – summer day camps.
  • Forestry – programs and site visits.
  • Master Gardeners – programs, classes and camps at the botanical gardens.

As of right now the intern will assist with youth programming for about 2/3 of his/her time. The rest of the time will be spent on agricultural activities. This may change as specific needs and opportunities arise.

Describe the knowledge / skills that the intern is expected to gain from this experience.

The Halifax VCE intern will be a true internship participating in all aspects of serving the clients in our area. He or she will assist with:

  • Researching information pertaining to agricultural and youth development best practices.
  • Planning, preparation, marketing, and execution of programs.
  • Organizational and administrative duties.
  • Serving clients and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
    Ensuring VCE follows laws & regulations especially pertaining to diverse cliental.
  • Maintaining solid risk management and liability practices.

How will the intern learn about the breadth of VCE and our various program areas?

The Halifax intern will learn about the breadth of VCE by shadowing & assisting agents and technicians in all program areas.
