Meadows Retires from Top 4-H Post

Robert Ray “Bob” Meadows retired from Virginia Cooperative Extension in October 2007. A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1985, Meadows served as director of the state 4-H program for the past seven years.

Although his youthful hopes of becoming a fighter pilot or circus owner were never fulfilled, Meadows found and accomplished a bigger dream – to make a positive impact on children. He began his career by teaching in a traditional setting. A friend who worked in 4-H recognized his talents with children, and convinced him to apply for a job opening in 4-H.

Meadows’ proudest accomplishments are in the 4-H camping program, where he helped all six 4-H centers attain and maintain American Camp Association accreditation and gain national recognition.

Although Meadows has retired, the 4-H community will continue to benefit from his talents and dedication. He plans to stay active in the world of 4-H by volunteering and helping to “make the best better.”
