1999 Program Highlights THEME: "Foundations in the Past: Focused on the Future" DISTRICT MEETINGS: District Cabinet members will provide leadership for conduction of District Meetings. Each District will follow common agendas. ORIENTATION SESSION FOR VOLUNTEERS AND AGENTS: Each adult is expected to attend the orientation session on Monday evening. Valuable information will be provided on Congress activities and adult responsibilities. OPENING ASSEMBLY: Feature events include a welcome to the university campus; celebration "kick-off"; a roll call of delegates by units; and special entertainment. DANCES: Two dances will be held. Monday evening's dance will be informal. Wednesday evening's dance will be a semi-formal dance (dressy attire). Both dances will include a VARIETY of music. Movies will be available for those who do not choose to attend the dances. RECOGNITION OF 4-H ALL STARS: This year marks the 77th Anniversary of Virginia 4-H All Stars. The Celebration Summer Conference of the Virginia Chapter of 4-H All Stars will be held at Virginia Tech following 4-H Congress, June 30-July 1. During 4-H Congress, those who will be tapped into the All Stars will be recognized during an assembly program. The tapping ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 30th from 2:45 3:45 pm. COMMUNITY SERVICE TRACKS: Community Service Tracks are educational events to be held on Tuesday, June 29. They will provide opportunities for congress delegates not participating in competition to learn and involve themselves in service learning. Bring old clothes and shoes to participate in Community Service Activities. CONGRESSIONAL GAMES: Action packed and fun generated events will be the feature of Tuesday eveningšs program. The evening will begin with a PEP Rally Blastoff and District Challenges, followed by a variety of sporting events, games and activities such as basketball, volleyball, wallyball, ping pong, swimming, bowling, competitive field day, and group games. Congress delegates should bring appropriate attire to participate. (including swimming attire for those in swim events). Sign up for World Games will occur during District Meetings. At the conclusion of the games, a special Awards Recognition will be held and awards presented. COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD: This year, the Congress Cabinet will again award "Clovers for Community" in recognition for excellence in community service and involvement within the community. There will be both an individual and a club award presented on three levels in each division. [refer to the Community Service Award Section]. TOWN MEETING: Wednesday morning program focus will be on this exciting approach to get everyone involved in back-home action to improve conditions for our communities. The Town Meeting, also known as The Issues Forum, will focus on "Protecting Our Rights! What goes on the Internet?" DONOR ACHIEVEMENT LUNCHEON: Wednesday's meal will be a dress-up luncheon to recognize and honor Virginia 4-H Program Donors and Achievement Winners. A Fashion Show featuring Fashion Revue winners will also be included in the Banquet affair. CONGRESS SHARE FAIR: Explore a wide variety of exciting, challenging, and hands-on ideas by participating in this new event designed to provide 4-H program sharing ideas through educational awareness booths, exhibits, events, performances, and demonstrations. The Share Fair will take place immediately following the awards luncheon on Wednesday afternoon. SHARE-THE-FUN AND AWARDS PROGRAM: A special show featuring winners from Share-the-Fun will be held on Wednesday evening. Winners from competitive events will also be recognized during the evening ceremonies. The public, including delegate families, is invited. (The share-the-fun show will consist of two acts per division. Persons in those selected acts will be required to attend rehearsal on Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday.
COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY: Installation of the 1999 congress Cabinet and a send-off challenge will conclude Congress 1999 and set the stage for the beginning of the millenium Virginia 4-H Program. STRIVE TO BE A 10! Units are encouraged again this year to set goals of at least 10 delegates attending Congress. Units achieving 10 will be recognized at various times during the Congress program.
