Careers and Economic Education
The Careers and Economic Education curriculum is an important part of the overall Virginia 4-H Educational Program. Job skills, entrepreneurial opportunities and an understanding of our global economy are important life skills in the development of any young person.
The curriculum is divided into three major areas: Workforce preparation, youth entrepreneurship and economic education.

Programs in each of these three areas are managed by the Careers and Economic Education Curriculum Committee. Youth, adult volunteer and professional training sessions are offered annually. In addition, pilot programs, grant opportunities and youth competitions are offered in this program area.
Consumer Education concentrates on setting goals and meeting them, stretching the dollar, consumer rights and responsibilities. High School Financial Planning is offered as a group curriculum.

Workforce Preparation
Careers and Me: Self Awareness and Career Activities
This is an activity guide for grades K-2 to provide youth with career awareness experiences in role playing, decision making and interaction with others. This guide includes
exercises, employment information and great illustrations.
The Career Workbook: Career Awareness Activities for Reading, Math, Language Arts
Excellent to use with in school or school enrichment groups. Excellent activity guide
for use in multiple youth settings. This activity guide focuses on the
3rd-5th grade audience. Introduces youth to the 15 career clusters (U.S. Office of Education), charts, lists,
puzzles, games and a career contract.
Career Capers: Featuring Activities and Puzzles
This activity guide offers practical experiments and activities in each of the 15 career clusters (U.S. Office of Education).
It is designed for the elementary and junior high audience. This guide includes member worksheet, career interview experiences and suggestions for organizing a career day.
Dream Catchers: Developing Career and Educational Awareness in Intermediate Grades
This curriculum includes a member manual, leader guide and a supplemental reproducible activity book. It is designed to help youth decide what they want to do and how to get there. This curriculum focuses on participants understanding different types of work and schooling, discovering personal interests and skills and setting and maintaining goals.
Pathfinder: Exploring Career and Educational Paths - Career and Educational Planning
This curriculum is designed for use with junior high and high school students. The focus of this program is helping youth decide their career "path" for the future. This curriculum includes activities on discovering, researching and assessing career interests, educational requirements and planning for the future. A members guide and a leaders guide are provided.
WOW! (Wild Over Work)
This curriculum was developed by the 4-H Cooperative Curriculum System and is part of the National collection. It is a leader guide of activities for grades K-6. It is based on themes: Work Around Me; Work in My Community; Work Around the World; and Work in My Future. This curriculum also addresses competencies in the SCANS report.
Virginia 4-H piloted this program. In the pilot sites, the
curriculum tested teen friendly and excellent for use in multiple delivery
modes.
Youth Entrepreneurship
Y.E.S.S. (Youth Empowerment and Self-Sufficiency)
Would you like to design your own society? Then the YESS! Program is for you. Your group will design their own country, currency and flag. You will establish businesses so you can buy and trade goods and services. In this project you will experience entrepreneurship and learn valuable economic principles.
