| Date: Monday, 10 Jul 2000 Mary Jane called last night. Her family has really been wonderful about insisting that she let us know how she is doing. She says she has seen lots of leaf-cutter ants and also something called a bala ant that "has the worst non-lethal sting of anything in the rain forest." She was quite thrilled--we weren't. The highlight of 4-S camp was a horseback ride through the rain forest to a waterfall. Unfortunately, Mary Jane was sick and missed it. She is looking forward to the trip to the volcano on Wednesday. |

| Mon, 03 Jul 2000 (from somewhere in Costa Rica) I almost forgot to send you your update. The trip went without a hitch. It seemed to take forever but we finally got here. We had a nice welcome at the airport and everyone was waiting for us in Aguas Zarcas. I think my discman was stolen in the airport. I'm not really sure when it happened, all I know is I don't have it. I haven't done much so far. It keeps raining. I did go to a dance on Saturday night and I've seen several people from the last exchange. I've been watching a lot of movies and TV. Tomorrow we're going to the camp so everything should liven up. I haven't been in touch with anyone else in the group since Saturday. Conchita says hello. I'll write you again when I get the chance. |
No he hecho mucho hasta ahora. |

| Monday, 10 Jul 2000 I'm just now getting to check my mail again. Sam has the camera and he and Tyler have been taking lots of pictures. I told them to make sure they send them to you. We went to the camp on the 4th of July and stayed there until the 8th. Sam, Mary, and I all got incredibly sick but it passed within a day or two. I think it had something to do with the camp food. Other than that the camp was an enjoyable experience. Sam was voted best dancer and Tara was voted most sociable. Travis was pretty popular with the girls as well. I am staying with Conchita's family. Saturday was Adriana's first confirmation so I went to the mass, which was a pretty new experience for me since I've never set foot in a Catholic church before. This country is so musical. Everyone is always singing and dancing. Last night Leidy took me roller skating and then to a discotec in Florencia. I think I'm going to see Shannon in a couple of days so I'll try and see if there's some way she can get in touch with her family if she hasn't already done so.
