4-H Exchange Group to Costa Rica, July, 2001

Day 2

by Kate Smith

Today at camp we played games that emphasized teamwork. This morning there was a scavenger hunt, where we needed to find fruits, flowers, and leaves. Part of that game was to make a flower arrangement out of the items we had found. Our group went out to see the town over lunch break and ended up eating at a local restaurant instead of going back to camp to eat. We found an internet cafè and for 500 colones we each had an hour to spend emailing friends and family.

In the afternoon we split into teams again and played another game. This one was comparable to a clue game in America. We would find a clue in the form of a riddle and it would lead us to the next clue. What has really impressed us is the fact that the Costa Ricans do not let the rain stop them from doing anything. We were running around in the pouring rain to do these games and it did not bother anyone.

This evening was a talent show. Some of the Costa Ricans performed dances, skits and songs, for the entire camp.
