GPS kits contain 20 eTrex GPS receivers, MapTech Terrain Navigator digital topo map sets for Virginia & nearby states, PC/GPS connector, Brunton Map & 24-Compass Education Kit, instructional videos, and other items (total kit value is about $2000).
Borrowing a 4-H GPS kit for a week is a normal and reasonable request. Scheduling, shipping costs, and financial responsibility issues must be worked out with the coordinating agent. Outside (to 4-H) groups should request kits through their local 4-H agent.
The new Advanced GPS Kit contains 15 eTrex Legend GPS receivers, Garmin CD's with topographic and road maps that can be loaded into the receivers, MapTech Terrain Navigator digital topographic map CD's for Virginia, and PC-GPS connector cables. These receivers are the same model as was provided to all VCE unit offices in 2004. The coordinating agent for the Advanced GPS Kit is Jennifer Bowen (Prince Edward County) - jebowen@vt.edu.
