This year's state competition will take place at the Virginia State Arboretum Winchester, VA. The Harrisonburg High School Ecology Club placed 15th overall at the 2001 National Competition.

Envirothon is a natural resources competition for high school students. Teams of five students and an alternate compete in five areas: soils, forestry, aquatics, wildlife and an environmental issue. In 2002 the Special Issue is Introduced Species and How They Affect Biodiversity. The Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts coordinates Envirothon with the help of many sponsors.
