Congratulations to all participants in the State 4-H Forestry Judging Contest held May 4-5 at the Southwest Virginia 4-H Center. Youth competed in forestry bowl, tree identification, tree measurements, forest insects and diseases, compass and orienteering, topographic map reading, and a forestry exam. Teams also had to evaluate, inventory and make management recommendations for a cove hardwood stand that was valued at over $2,000 per acre. The First Place Senior Team from Scott County will represent Virginia at the national contest at Jackson's Mill State 4-H Camp in Weston, WV, July 29 through August 2. First Place Junior Team honors also go to Scott County. Teams from 19 counties participated in 4-H forestry judging this year.
