Selection Scenario: The Angus heifers will be mated to Hereford bulls with the main objective being production of crossbred heifer calves that will be used in a large crossbred cow herd. The male calves produced will be backgrounded and sold into feedlots as yearlings. Cattle must be trouble-free and easy to keep, since the feeding program for the cowherd is grass pasture and hay without supplementation.

Selection Scenario: These gilts are born in January of 2002. They will be mated to Hampshire boars to produce market hogs. No replacements will be kept. Rank the gilts as replacements in a commercial farrow to finish operation All pigs will be sold on a carcass basis with payment based on Fat Free Lean Index. All pigs will be raised in total confinement. The producer profits most from fast-growing, lean, heavy-muscled hogs.
