Employment
The Skelton 4-H Center employs approximately fifteen (15) full time staff as well as approximately thirty-five (35) part time staff throughout the year. Departments include Administration, Programs, Food Service, Housekeeping, Conferencing, and Buildings & Grounds. Check this site often for position vacancies. Part Time/Seasonal Positions:
- Lifeguards are needed to work with groups who choose to make use of our pool during the summer months. Work is usually contained to weekend days, but occasionally this is not the case. For more information or to apply, please contact the Program Director (540.721.2759, x.254).

Summer Program Staff
Approximately 23 summer staff are hired annually to conduct Junior 4-H Camp and 4-H Center Specialty Camps (i.e. DARE Camp, MDA Kids Camp, Carilion Family Camp, Ruritan National Youth Conference).Typically 4-H Center summer staff have completed at least one (1) year out of high school, have experience working with youth, and/or experience with 4-H or other camping programs.
- Summer staff positions include (but are not limited to): Staff Coordinator, Kayaking, Canoeing, Archery, Riflery, Climbing Tower, Challenge Course, Performing Arts, Computer Science, Multimedia, Small Animal Science, Outdoor Adventures, Beginning and Advanced Swimming, Arts & Crafts, Adventure Instructors, etc.

Outdoor Education Instructors
- Outdoor Education programs are offered to local school and other youth organizations throughout the spring, fall, and winter seasons. Seasonal instructors are hired to staff these programs, teaching a wide variety of curriculum in the areas of environmental education, teambuilding and adventure education, character education, and recreational activities. Training is provided. Preference is given to those with documented experience in a related position. Internships
- Internships are offered each season and are focused on the chosen field of the Intern (Outdoor Education, Camp, Adventure Programming, Adult Educational Programming, etc.) as well as requirements set forth by the student's educational institution. Training and experience will be offered in all areas of program and facility administration to enhance the Intern's experience and marketability post-graduation. A special project will be required of all Interns, to be determined by the intern and Intern Supervisor. Students seeking an internship as a requirement for their undergraduate degrees are encouraged to contact the Program Director (540.721.2759, x. 254) for more information.
Adult Education Instructors
- Adult Education programs are offered from August-June and feature a variety of interests and course lengths. Day courses in painting, drawing, photography, cooking, computers, antiquing and more are offered. Weeklong courses held at the 4-H Center are offered through Elderhostel and provide engaging educational courses for adults at affordable prices! Adult Education Instructors are needed.
