4-H Adventures

Adventure Kids!

What is it?

4-H Adventures is a brand new summer camp program that allows older campers the opportunity to experience exciting adventure activities away from the 4-H Center.  Campers will arrive on Monday like typical 4-H Campers, but will leave shortly thereafter to begin their adventures throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains of our region!  Camps will sleep under the stars all week (camping in tents), while participating in awesome adventures such as rock climbing, caving, and backpacking, before returning to the 4-H Center on Friday.  Campers will learn more about themselves and those around them while working together to set-up camp, prepare and clean-up meals, and encourage each other through the various challenges they will face throughout the week, while learning more about the natural world around them.

Climber

Who can participate?

Youth ages 11-16 are welcome to join us for our 4-H Adventures camps.  Capacity is limited to twelve (12) campers to ensure minimum impact on the environment and appropriate supervision ratios.  No experience necessary!

When does it take place?

4-H Adventures will take place each Monday through Friday of the summer camping season! See the brochure for specific dates.

The Fonz

Where does it take place?

4-H Adventures begin and end along the shores of Smith Mountain Lake at the W. E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center; however, Monday evening through Friday mornings will be spent away from the 4-H Center at locations throughout the Roanoke and New River Valleys.  Specific locations will be determined based on weather the week prior.

Do I need any special equipment?

Yes…but we provide it all!  Campers should provide comfortable clothing that will allow the freedom to be active and the appropriate for the weather, as well as provide their own toiletries, hiking boots, and a sleeping bag.  However, the 4-H Center will provide backpacks, camping equipment, climbing gear, and all caving equipment for the duration of the trip.

How can I register?

You can view and/or download the brochure here for printing or simply contact the 4-H Center at 540.721.2759 OR via email for a copy of the registration brochure.
