Meet the Program Department
Chris Smith-Program Director
As Program Director Chris is responsible for the overall supervision of the Program Department. In addition, he is responsible for the direct supervision and implementation of the Junior 4-H Camp, Specialty Camp, and 4-H Adventures programs. Chris joined the 4-H Center staff in April, 2004. A graduate of Radford University, his background includes experience in youth and adult programming in a variety of areas including traditional summer camp, environmental education, youth teambuilding, adult & corporate teambuilding, adventure programming & training, and more. Chris and his family reside in Franklin County.
Becca Obert-Outdoor Education Coordinator
As Outdoor Education Coordinator Becca will work mostly with schools in our region to provide students with outdoor-learning opportunities designed to supplement their classroom education. In addition, Becca will work with the Program Director to ensure safe and effective teambuilding and challenge course programs for groups of all ages and interests. Becca joined our team in March, 2006 with a very strong background in environmental education, teambuilding and challenge course management, group facilitation, and adventure programming. Becca is a graduate of Ohio University. Although Becca loves the outdoors, she is quite fond of the city-life she has found by living in downtown Roanoke.
Dennis Crowley-Adult Education Coordinator
The veteran of the Program Department, Dennis has been with us since "the turn of the century" (early 2000's!). As Adult Education Coordinator, Dennis oversees a thriving Adult Education Program featuring participants from all over the country. A graduate of VMI, Dennis spent many years as a college-level educator and administrator in New York before retiring to the Roanoke Valley with his wife.
