Driver Designation and Van Transit

Designated drivers will be identified on the 4-H Center Water Wizard Van Registration Form or on the Off-Center Registration Form. It is important that all prospective drivers be identified and registered prior to driving the van. This is to ensure that they will be covered by Extension's liability/accident insurance.

All designated drivers must be state or NRCS employees or enrolled 4-H/NRCS volunteers and:

  • Have a valid drivers license,
  • Have no serious driving offenses including reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving without a license, etc. This information can be requested from the driver or from the Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • Have department/center approval to drive the van.

It is recommended that use of volunteers as drivers should be limited.

The van is to be driven for official business only (educational programming). It can not be used to transport equipment or materials other than what has been dedicated to the van. It can not be used to transport people other than two individuals who will use the van for educational programs.

Both driver and passenger must wear safety belts when in the vehicle. All state laws pertaining to operation of a vehicle on public roads are to be obeyed. Fines and other judgements received by the driver for improper vehicle operation will be the responsibility of the driver.

Off-Center users must abide by the regulations and procedures previously outlined for the 4-H Centers. Off-Center users should receive (and be oriented to) the following regulations and procedures:

  • Water Wizard Van Regulations,
  • Van Security and Center/User Liability
  • Van Fueling, Maintenance and Cleaning,
  • Driver Designations and Van Transport,
  • Awning Instructions,
  • Accident Procedures and Reporting,
  • Equipment and Materials Check List, and
  • Activity and Travel Report.
