Develop an IPM Pest Control Contract or Plan of Work

If your school district contracts with a pest management company, the company needs to be informed that you plan to switch to an IPM program. Your school district will then need to draft the contract and put it out for bid. Our Sample Pest Management Contract is a MS Word document. It may be opened, saved, and edited to fit the requirements of your school district.

Contrary to how most pest control contracts are currently negotiated, your school district will need to write the IPM pest management specifications. Most likely, your present pest control contract was written by the pest management company. Their contract explains the services the company will perform for a certain price.

However, your pest control contract needs to be written to protect your facilities from both pests and pesticides. The IPM contract specifications will explain to your pest control contractor in detail your new pest management requirements.

You will find that the Virginia Pest Management Association has made a concerted effort to train the state pest control operators in how to use IPM methods. In fact, the school IPM training session you would receive from Virginia Tech (see Free Training) is almost identical to the training Dr. Miller has given for the state pest management professionals. Therefore, your pest management company and their competitors should already be familiar with the school IPM program and prepared to bid on the contract.

If your pest management is done in-house, the Sample Pest Management Contract can be used as a Plan of Work. Be sure a copy of the Plan of Work is put in your pesticide application log book so everyone is aware of what your district's pest management practices are.
