Four Points of IPM

Integrated pest management strategies to be used simultaneously:

  1. Prevention: Eliminating the potential for pest infestation
    1. Maintenance: prevent pests from ever entering the building
    2. Sanitation: eliminate pest access to food, water, and harborage
  2. Inspection and Monitoring: detect pest evidence before pests become established
  3. Reduced Toxicity Pesticide Products: Use baits, insect growth regulators, and boric acid dust instead of pesticide sprays. Apply these products only "as needed" to correct documented pest problems.
  4. Record Keeping: Apply pesticides only to correct documented pest problems. If a pesticide is applied, the location of the application and type of pesticide applied must be recorded. Note: Accurate records are the best protection against liability.
