Four Points of IPM
Integrated pest management strategies to be used simultaneously:
- Prevention: Eliminating the potential for pest infestation
- Maintenance: prevent pests from ever entering the building
- Sanitation: eliminate pest access to food, water, and harborage
- Inspection and Monitoring: detect pest evidence before pests become established
- Reduced Toxicity Pesticide Products: Use baits, insect growth regulators, and boric acid dust instead of pesticide sprays. Apply these products only "as needed" to correct documented pest problems.
- Record Keeping: Apply pesticides only to correct documented pest problems. If a pesticide is applied, the location of the application and type of pesticide applied must be recorded. Note: Accurate records are the best protection against liability.
